be stillhow in the world did the holiday season sneak up on me?  it could have something to do with the fact that we’ve moved across the country and that we are living truly in transition.  but this new cd will get me in the right mind for holiday festivities, despite the lack of cold weather and snow.  a girl can dream.

my sister-in-law and i share july birthdays and so tonight we went to dinner and celebrated getting older wiser.  and i was really pleased with the necklace i created for her.  she was too.

black and yellow necklace

came across this print over at Share Some Candy.  i’m always amazed at how many talented people there are in the world.   i couldn’t take my eyes off of this.  it is available for purchase here.

I like to create things, things with paper, fabric, words…  I, like so many, live with a critic on my shoulder who is quite difficult to ignore.  A friend gave me this poem and it hit the nail on the head.

What I Want to Say — Pat Schneider

Well, I was playing, see,
in the shadow of the tabernacle.
I was decorating mud pies
with little brown balls
I found scattered on the ground
like nuts, or berries.
Until some big boy came walking by
and laughed.  Hey,
don’t you know you’re puttin’ goat doo
on your mud pies? I bet
you’re gonna eat ‘em, too!

That day I made a major error
in my creative life.

What I want to say is this:
I liked those little balls
on my mud pies.  I was a sculptor,
an artist, an architect.  I was making pure design in space and time.
But I quit
because a critic came along
and called it shit.

…you ask your boss, “Do you know where the local fed-ex drop off is?”

And then she responds, “I sure do, but I bet you could find out for yourself if you look it up.”

(…that’s just rude!)

Fail to Plan, Plan to Fail

This could have been much worse.

…but it’s done. I actually finished my wedding scrapbook today. This is a task that I’ve wanted to complete for quite some time, but I’ve always let something get in the way. I seemed to lose all mental fortitude after I had to come to a stopping point when we moved. Well today was the day that I made it happen.

I found it interesting how much things have changed in four years. Like how four years ago no one in my circle of friends or family owned a digital camera; and also how short my hair was! I also think it is interesting that I remember going to Michaels a few weeks after we were married and thinking, “wow, they’ve got this new paper section just for scrapbooking.” The craft industry in general has exploded, but I didn’t realize how much until I saw some of the first pages that I created; my resources were quite limited. But despite those limitations and my procrastination, I actually finished a project.

New year, new hope. I really like the idea of a fresh start and what better time than a new calendar year. Here are a few things that have ushed in a happy new year:
